NBCA Faculty

Tracy Baker-White graduated from Williams College, where she received the Royal Society of Arts Award in 1980. She also studied at the Sarah Lawrence College studio art program in Lacoste, France. After completing a graduate degree at the University of Washington, Baker-White spent 20 years working as a museum educator in California, Texas and Washington D.C. Since returning to the Berkshires in 2003, Baker-White has exhibited works nationally in numerous juried exhibitions in eight different states. A selection of her paintings will be on display from May 23-August 23, 2007 at Tunnel City Coffee, on Spring Street in Williamstown, courtesy of The Harrison Gallery.

Arthur Evans, Founder and Principal of Arthur Evans Associates has been involved in photography from teaching to museum work for over 25 years. His own work has been exhibited throughout the area.

Lisa Hillman has had extensive experience in painting, printmaking and collage and has been a long time student of DAC instructor Constance Kiermaier. Miss Hillman is an award winning artist who has exhibited her work in numerous shows. She studied Visual Culture at the Union Institutes' graduate program at Vermont College, and with the guidance of installation artist Jo Yarrington, she has created several installations. She recently curated an exhibit for the DAC at Town Hall. She is a Loft Artist Associate with a studio in Stamford and a member of FIVE ARTISTS.

Alison Kolesar has worked as a freelance illustrator and artist for over twenty years. Her preferred medium is watercolor because of the translucence and glow of its color and ability to capture light.


David Lane's blog Porchlight Paintings has allowed him to connect with like minded artists and collectors from all over the world. David enjoys painting small scale still life that can be completed in one or two sessions. His art has been featured in Berkshire Living Magazine and the North Adams Transcript. He is also a Plein Air enthusiast and almost always paints from life. When he's not painting, David teaches theatre at the University At Albany.

Marafanyi Percussion
Lara Gonzalez & Yael Shacham (Marafanyi Founders & Artistic Directors) have over 10 years of experience as teaching artists and serve children (and adults!) of all ages & populations. They each have particular training focused on Early Learning: Yael has been a certified Music Together™ teacher for 4 years and Lara is a trained Early Learning Through the Arts© and Wolftrap™ resident teaching artist for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) since 1998. This background enhances their overall focus on Developmental Domains including Cognitive, Motor/Physical, Language/Literacy and Social/Emotional as well as Core Curriculum Standards including math & science, geography & social studies, language arts, and creative arts (music, dance, drama). John McDonald is a native of Lafayette, Indiana, and has been painting and illustrating for over 26 years. Eschewing the narrow and fixed label of illustrator or painter, John sees himself as an image maker, creating illustrations, plein air oil landscapes, digitally-colored woodcuts, and spontaneous "source" paintings in tempera. John has been a long-time member of the Graphic Artists Guild, Society of Illustrators, and Illustrator's Partnership of America.

Kent Mikalsen, MFA, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, BA, University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida.  Kent Mikalsen is a sculptor with a studio in North Adams.  He is also a production designer and art director in the entertainment industry.  He has been an architectural illustrator creating presentations for major architectural and interior design firms in the Northeast.  He has taught art and design in colleges in New York, Pennsylvania and Florida and was on the design faculty in the Architecture Department at the University of Florida.

Elizabeth Parker

Tony Pisano, is a life long resident of North Adams. He began studying the accordion at Philharmonic Studios and by the age of 11 played at the New York World’s Fair.  He currently is a member of the Flying Garbanzos, a contra dance and performing band.  Pisano also plays guitar, mandolin and drums.

Leslie Reed-Evans is the Executive Director of the Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation, a land trust located in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Reza Pike has Certificate in Painting from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Reza is a skilled draftsman and painter of the real world. He excels in portrait and landscape painting in both oils and acrylics. He has been exhibiting and teaching in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Vermont for several years.

Sean Riley MFA, Painting, University of Pennsylvania.  BFA, Painting, Massachusetts College of Art.  Riley received a Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant in 2004 upon graduating form UPenn.  He creates art work in all mediums and exhibits in galleries in Philadelphia, PA and North Adams, MA.  He was the former Interim Executive Director at NBCA and now serves on the Advisory Committee.

Nova Wyatt Rockwell BFA,University of Oklahoma, studied at the Brooklyn Museum School, New York University, and School of Visual Arts in New York City. Rockwell has taught art to children in various private and public schools, art schools and museums in Berkshire County.

Sally Sussman has an MFA in painting from Michigan State University and a BS in art from Bowling Green University in Ohio. She has exhibited her work in juried exhibitions and gallery spaces and has especially enjoyed being a part of shows featuring women's art work. Sally has lived and worked in the Northern Berkshires for the past twenty-seven years.

Ellen Wineberg, BFA in Painting  from Boston University, BA Art Education University of Washington.  She has shown extensively throughout New England and filled many sketchbooks. In 2004 she was a Massachusetts  Cultural Council Finalist in  Painting and in  2006 she was in a Recent Acquisitions Show of prints at the DeCordova Museum. She teaches at the Danforth Museum in Framingham and at New Art Center in Newton, MA


Liz Urban
studied Theatre at Skidmore College where she received her Bachelor's degree. She has worked with the Williamstown Theatre Festival, most recently acting as the Assistant to the Director of the Greylock Theatre Project. Liz is a co-founder of Mill City Productions and serves as President.
