Children's Classes and Workshops

Make Art for the River
NBCA
and Hoosic River Watershed Association will collaborate for NBCA's monthly Family Art Day, May 17, from 1-3 PM.  River habitats and inhabitants will be the subject of sculptures, masks and painted banners, which will be displayed at the upcoming annual Riverfest. Family Day attendees will receive free admission to Riverfest, www.hoowra.org

NBCA Family Day is a fun way for parents and caregivers to work alongside their children and create art. This event is free and open to the public but you must call NBCA to register. Ages 2 - 5
Creative Movement with Marafanyi Percussion
May 19 , June 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 10am to 11am

Six sessions Tuition $55 for NBCA Members / $65 for non members
Join Marafanyi Percussion for an inspired dance journey with live music accompaniment where we explore different movement landscapes and textures. This is free-form and child-centered dance - not technique based - so there is no right or wrong. We focus on the creative process and highlight each child’s unique expression while exercising problem solving skills and accessing multiple intelligences.



Ages 5 - 9 After School Programs, Monday through Friday, 3:30pm to 5pm
Siblings receive 50% discount with one full fee registration


Spring Forth with Mixed Media

Tuesdays, 3:30pm to 5pm, April 29 through June 3
Six sessions Tuition $75 for NBCA Members / $95 for non-members

Let’s enjoy the beauty of Spring by being creative and exploring mixed media. Learn about color, texture and design. Draw, paint, and build fantastic constructions. Materials will include watercolors, oil pastels, wood, clay, fabric and more. Bring your imagination.


Hands on Art History
Wednesdays, 3:30pm to 5pm, April 30 through June 4
Six sessions Tuition $75 for NBCA Members / $95 for non-members
Instructor: TBA
Learn about different artists and their techniques, from cave art to cubism. Students will make a variety of artwork inspired by famous and unknown artists throughout history. Materials will include paint, ink, markers, pastels, wood, paper maché, printing and much more.


Music and Art
Fridays, 3:30pm to 5pm, May 2 through June 6
Six sessions Tuition $75 for NBCA Members / $95 for non-members

Create your own percussion instruments, including rainsticks, maracas, and drums! Decorate your projects using drawing, painting, and mixed media, and practice for a debut performance with your hand-made instruments.

School Vacation Camps

April 21 - 25 School Vacation Camp for Ages 5 - 9


Book Making
Monday through Friday, 1pm to 4pm
Five sessions Tution: $125 NBCA Members / $150 non-Members
Instructor: Ivana Luttazi
Show your creativity! Make books in all kinds of interesting shapes and sizes, with pop-out pages and more. Students will be taught how to make a connection between story and image, sequencing, and different ways of binding a book. Handmade books are a great keepsake!

Graphic Design

Wednesdays, 2:30 to 4pm, April 30 through June 4
Six sessions Tuition $75 for NBCA Members / $95 for non-members
Instructor: Ivana Luttazi
This is an introductory class to learn how to communicate visually using typography and images. Students will learn
basic principals of graphic design, such as contrast, repetition, scale, balance, proximity/unity, and use of white space.
They will be given design problems to solve within grid systems, and will also be exposed to the history of Graphic Design.


Workshops

Wearable Art: Handmade Paper Jewelry
Instructor: Robin Brickman
Sunday, May 18, 2pm to 4pm Tuition: $45 (materials included)
(Ages 13 and up; ages 11 and 12 are welcome if accompanied by an adult)
Using sculpted paper techniques, participants will make paper jewelry inspired by nature. Robin Brickman, an award-winning illustrator of children's picture books, will lead the group in creating an attractive handmade paper sculpture. Appropriate for adults and teenagers.



School Vacation Camps

April 21 - 25 School Vacation Camp for Ages 9 -12

Art & Nature: Sheep Hill in April
Co-sponsored by Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation
9am to 12noon, Tuition $125 for NBCA Members / $150 non members
Instructors: Nova Rockwell and Leslie Reed-Evans
A collaboration of exploring nature in early spring and creating art at Sheep Hill. Art projects will be based on observations made and imaginations stretched, using a variety of mediums for drawing and painting while enjoying Sheep Hill's beautiful environment.


April 21 - 25 School Vacation Camp for Ages 10 - 13

Photography Basics
1pm to 4pm, Tuition $125 for NBCA Members / $150 non members
Ages 10 – 13
Instructor: Gillian Jones
Expand your imagination by learning the basics of photography. This class will cover both film and digital photography by exploring composition, outdoor photography, portraiture, and editing. An exhibition of student work will be held on the last day.
